After four-and-a-half years Amir Hekmati has been reunited with his family.
Hekmati, a U.S. Marine from Flint, was freed as part of a prisoner swap between the U.S. and Iran.
U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee traveled to Germany at the request of Hekmati’s family. He told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that Amir has reunited with his sister, Sarah, and her husband.
Kildee says it’s yet to be determined when Hekmati will return home. He says it’s a decision that will be made by Hekmati as well as his family and the medical staff treating him in Germany.
Hekmati had been imprisoned in Iran since being arrested and charged with spying in 2011 while visiting his grandmother.
