Red Cross Seeks Blood

The American Red Cross in Michigan says there’s an urgent need for blood and platelet donations.

Spokesperson Todd Kuhlman says donations were down during the holidays and they’re hoping donations pick up soon in order to prevent a shortage this winter.

Blood has a shelf life of 42 days and platelets are only good for five days.

Nationally, donations were down by 50,000 during the last couple of months.

To catch up, the Red Cross has to collect about 14,000 donations every day.
January is National Blood Donor Month.
