Bill Would add CPR Training to High School Grad Requirements

A Michigan lawmaker wants to require high schoolers learn CPR before they can graduate.

State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker is sponsoring a bill to add CPR training to graduation requirements.

Under the legislation, students in grades 7 to 12 would receive CPR training beginning in the 2016-17 school year.

Schuitmaker says this allows high school students to be trained in basic CPR and how to use a defibrillator.

She says the training would be part of the health class curriculum and only takes about 30 minutes.

Schuitmaker says 27 states have already adopted the requirement.
