The Detroit Pistons overcame a nine-point deficit after the third quarter, and beat the Boston Celtics 99-94 last night. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 24 points. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20. The Pistons host the Brooklyn Nets Saturday night.

The Detroit Red Wings skate at San Jose tonight. Face-off is at 10:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit rookie Dylan Larkin has been named to the NHL All-Star Team. Larkin is the only Red Wing on the Atlantic Division squad, which will compete in the revamped three-on-three tournament against teams from the other three divisions on January 31st. He’s the only first-year player named to the team, and the first rookie to represent Detroit since Steve Yzerman in 1984.

Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson may have played his last NFL game. Johnson released a statement yesterday saying that he’s evaluating his future, and that retirement is an option. He promised a decision in the “not too distant future.” Johnson is 31, and has struggled with injuries the past several seasons. He has four years remaining in his contract with the team.

Former Detroit Tigers shortstop Alan Trammell has again fallen short of getting enough votes to reach the Baseball Hall of Fame. In his final year of eligibility on the general ballot, Trammell received vote from 41 percent of the electors. 75 percent is the threshold. Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza were elected to the Hall. Trammell could still be voted in by the veteran’s committee.

Nordic Skiing
The 2016 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships continue with the Freestyle distance events today.

The competition will wrap up with the Classic sprints on Saturday.

The Copper Country Curling Club will hold an open house at the Drill House rink in Calumet Saturday between noon and 3:00. You can try out the newest Olympic sport, just watch, and see the renovations that have been made to the historic facility. The Drill House Rink is located behind Calumet High School, straight behind the Calumet Colosseum. Gym shoes are best to wear on the ice.
