State Senate to Consider Road Tax Hike

State Senate to Consider Road Tax Hike – May 22, 2014 – Todd VanDyke
A Michigan Senate committee has approved a package of bills designed to spend more money on roads and bridges. This proposal adds about 200 million dollars to a 450-million dollar package already approved by the Michigan House. Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville says the first year of the plan should result in about 650-million more dollars for roads and bridges. He claims it could eventually raise as much as one-and-a-half billion. The proposal would eliminate the state’s retail gas and diesel tax… and replace it with an escalating tax based on the wholesale price. The bottom line is that motorists could wind up paying twice the fuel tax we’re paying now within the next four or five years. The package now goes before the full Senate.
