Snyder Seeks Refugee Vetting Meeting

Governor Rick Snyder is asking Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to engage the Council of Governors to discuss the issue of refugee vetting in depth.

There have been security concerns about the refugees.

Governor Snyder was the first governor to suspend acceptance of Syrian refugees, but emphasized later that it was only a “pause” in the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris and Beirut.

The Detroit News reports that in a letter sent last week to Kerry, Snyder says it would be a natural forum for the Council of Governors to “share expertise and best practices related to the security of all Americans.”

Snyder noted the council is expected to meet this month, and governors should be allowed to bring their homeland security experts to the meeting.
