MLB: Tigers Fall on 13th Inning Balk
After more than five hours of baseball in Cleveland yesterday afternoon, the Tigers finally lost to the Indians 11-10 when Al Alburquerque balked in the winning run in the 13th inning. The day started well for the Tigers… who scored four runs in the first inning. Before they could blink, though, they were trailing… after Max Scherzer gave up seven runs over the first three innings. Scherzer settled down, and completed seven innings. Detroit came back… and took a two-run lead in the top of the eighth. Cleveland tied it with two off Joe Nathan in the bottom of the ninth. Detroit took another lead on a solo homer by Alex Avila in the top of the 13th… but Phil Coke gave up the tying run in the bottom of the inning… and Alburquerque balked with the bases loaded to end the game. The Tigers return home to host the Rangers this afternoon. Robbie Ray will face Yu Darvish. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Reliever Joel Hanrahan has resumed throwing off a mound… as he continues to try to come back from Tommy John surgery. Hanrahan’s rehab had been slowed a week ago, when he experienced soreness. The Tigers signed him as a free agent, hoping he may be ready to join the team at mid-season.

Andy Dirks’ recovery from back surgery is taking longer than expected. Dirks’ is participating in light workouts, but has not been cleared for full activities. He had hoped to rejoin the team early next month. Now, his return will probably be delayed until late in the month.

Brewers Beat Braves
The Brewers snapped their four-game losing skid with a 6-1 victory over the Braves. Mark Reynolds’ grand slam in the first inning got Milwaukee off to a quick start. Kyle Lohse surrendered a run in the first… but settled in to allow just four hits over eight innings. The Brewers wrap up that series at Atlanta tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Aaron Harang.
