A meeting between Escanaba city leaders and the Michigan Department of Corrections has cleared the air over a parolee controversy in the Upper Peninsula community.
Police in Escanaba claim the DOC was dumping recently released prisoners there who weren’t from the area.
State Representative Ed McBroom, who set up the video conference between the two, says that was happening – to a degree – but it was happening for a good reason.
And while the prisoners placed in Escanaba weren’t from Delta County they were from the U.P.
He says, while the DOC didn’t pledge to never do it again, the agency will better communicate what’s happening with police in Escanaba.
