A Detroit-based business is recalling about 1.8 million pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service announced Monday that the affected Wolverine Packing Company products were produced between March 31 and April 18. The ground beef was shipped to distributors for restaurant use in Michigan, Massachusetts, Missouri and Ohio. The contaminated beef is believed to have affected 11 diners in the four states. A preliminary investigation by the Michigan Department of Community Health Laboratory’ suggests the illnesses stemmed from under-cooked hamburgers at several restaurants.
