Michigan Tech forward Tyler Heinonen has been honored as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week. Heinonen collected three goals and three assists as the Huskies earned a win and a tie at Michigan State last weekend. Tech remains at number-19 in the USCHO.com poll this week.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s hockey team will entertain St. Norbert College tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 at the Houghton County Arena.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 109-88 last night. Milwaukee’s Greg Monroe scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against his former Detroit teammates. Andre Drummond had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Pistons, but most of that came before he appeared to suffer an injury late in the first half. He continued to play, but was not effective in the second half. After the game, Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said the injury was minor. The Pistons host the Miami Heat tomorrow night.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the New England Patriots remained unbeaten with a 20-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least eight games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.
MLB
Lloyd McClendon is back with the Detroit Tigers. McClendon was recently fired after two seasons as the manager of the Seattle Mariners. Before that, he spent eight years as a coach under former Detroit manager Jim Leyland. McClendon was hired yesterday as the new manager of the Toledo Mud Hens. He replaces Larry Parrish, who retired at the end of the 2015 season.
