KBIC General Election This Saturday

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community will hold its general election this Saturday.

Registered voters in the L’Anse District will cast ballots at the Zeba Community Hall.

Residents in the Baraga District will vote at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center.

Two council members will be selected from each district.

Candidates in the L’Anse District are Susan J. LaFernier (incumbent), Jennifer Misegan (incumbent), Tracy L. Emery, and Kevin Perrault.

Candidates in the Baraga District are Warren “Chris” Swartz, Jr. (incumbent), Dan Connor, Fred Dakota, and Sue Ellen Elmblad (“Suzie Carlson”).

Voters will also be asked to vote yes or no on two proposals:

Proposal 1 asks voters if they support a new casino development project in Baraga at the current casino site with an estimated cost of $28 million?

Proposal 2 asks voters if they support a casino development project in Marquette at the current casino site with an estimated cost of $12 million?

Voting locations will be open from 10am to 6pm.
