Bill Going After Drugged Drivers

A bill cracking down on drugged drivers is moving through the Michigan Legislature. Yesterday the Michigan House Judiciary Committee approved a measure that sponsors say ensures immediate jail time for repeat offenders and better communication between law enforcement agencies. House Republican Dan Lauwers says the measure puts a ‘conditional bond’ on drivers who are arrested for operating their vehicle under the influence of drugs and puts the bond into the statewide Law Enforcement Information Network. It also requires drugged motorists to be given a permit license similar to a drunken driving offense, which would be recorded with the Secretary of State’s office.
