MLB: Tigers Open Set at Boston
The Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series at Boston tonight. Max Scherzer will face Jon Lester. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Davis Rescues Brewers in Ninth
Kris Davis’ two-run single in the ninth inning lifted the Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Pirates yesterday. Yovani Gallardo pitched shutout ball through four innings… but gave up a two-run homer to Tony Sanchez in the fifth… and a solo shot to Gaby Sanchez in the sixth. Milwaukee got solo homers from Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonado. The Brewers open a series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field this this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Jeff Samardzija.
Finlandia Men’s Hoops Adds GCC Transfer
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team has added another U.P. player. Former Gladstone star Michael Cretens will join the Lions, after playing for a season at Gogebic Community College. In his senior year at Gladstone, Cretens was named to the 2013 Class ABC All-U.P. Second Team… and the 2013 All-Great Northern Conference Second Team All-Conference.
Pistons Introduce VanGundy
The Detroit Pistons introduced their new head coach and president of basketball operations yesterday… Stan Van Gundy… VAN GUNDY. Van Gundy says one of his first tasks will be a conversation with restricted free agent Greg Monroe. The team is expected to add a general manager to the staff to handle day-to-day operations.
Gun and Knife Show Opens Today
The ninth annual Gun and Knife Show opens this afternoon at a new location – the Houghton County Arena. The show will be open today from 4:00 until 9:00, and tomorrow from 9:00 until 5:00. Admission is $5.00 per person. A portion of the admission fee will be donated to area clubs for deer feed. Concessions will be provided by the Copper Country Junior Hockey association.
