A busy agenda was on the docket yesterday for the Houghton City Council. Among the actionable business that was discussed, the council approved the rezoning of West Houghton Avenue from a multiple-family residential district to a one-family residential district. City Manager Eric Waara received many complaints from families in that area regarding distruptive tenants on neighboring properties. The city also received phone calls from landlords worries about how the rezoning effects rental licenses.
The city council also approved a plan that will be presented to the state regarding the unfunded accrued liability from the city’s retirement plan and Waara gave an update on its status.
