Hancock Man Charged In The Death Of His Infant Son

A Hancock man has been charged with the death of his infant son.

It’s just one of seven felonies he was charged with.

In Houghton on July 2nd of this year, 27-year-old Benjamin Michael Reilly is accused of placing his child in an unsafe sleeping environment after allegedly providing him an alcoholic beverage.

The baby later died but the exact cause of death has not been reported.

Reilly is also believed to have broken into a building at Finlandia University on October 21st.

According to court documents, electronic equipment and bicycles were stolen and later recovered.

Reilly was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter—a 15 year felony, two counts of Child Abuse—both 10 year felonies, Breaking and Entering with Intent—another 10 year felony, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property—a 5 year felony, Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer—a 5 year felony, and Making a False Report of A Felony—which itself is a 4 year felony.

Bond for Reilly was set at $1.5 million.

A probable cause hearing will be held in one week with a preliminary exam in three weeks.
