The MYCA is coming to Northern Michigan & the Upper Peninsula.

The Michigan Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) has its sights set on Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

“Recruiting and Informational” events are scheduled at five northern National Guard Armories: Grayling, Gladstone, Baraga, Marquette, and Sault Ste. Marie.

These events provide an MYCA outline and benefits presentation along with individual applicant interviews.

The main purpose of each recruiting event is to identify the best qualified applicants; those who possess the necessary abilities to become an MYCA graduate. Below is the information for each Recruiting and Informational event:

•Saturday October 31st at 10:00AM – Grayling Armory, 2450 Camp Grayling Road, Grayling, 49738
•Monday November 2nd at 6:00PM – Gladstone Armory, 604 S. 18th St., Gladstone
•Tuesday November 3rd at 6:00PM – Baraga Armory, 1005 Superior Ave, Baraga
•Wednesday November 4th at 6:00PM – Marquette Armory, 1820 Lincoln Ave, Marquette
•Thursday November 5th at 6:00PM – Sault St. Marie Armory, 1170 E. Portage Ave, Sault St. Marie

The MYCA is a no cost, voluntary residential education academy for both males and females ages 16-18 who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of high school.

Over a 22-week period, program participants from all over Michigan attend classes at the MYCA as they would in a traditional high school, but they also engage in a variety of activities aimed at developing leadership skills, teamwork, physical fitness, employment skills, and civic responsibility.

The MYCA employs an interdisciplinary intervention model which includes formal education, elements of the social and behavioral sciences, and a quasi-military structure of organization and procedures.
