Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team entertains Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 6:00 this evening.
NHL
The Carolina Hurricanes scored twice in the third period, and defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 last night. The Wings host the Ottawa Senators Friday night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Hancock native Tanner Kero has been called up to the Chicago Blackhawks. The former MTU captain had eight points in five games with the Rockford IceHogs this season. Kero’s first game will be tomorrow night as the Hawks host the Winnipeg Jets. Blackhawks games are broadcast on WGN Radio AM-720, which often can be picked up in the Copper Country at night.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons opened their regular season with a 106-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks last night. All five Detroit starters reached double figures in scoring, led by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with 21 points. Andre Drummond grabbed 19 rebounds. The Pistons host the Utah Jazz in their home opener tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
MLB
Eric Hosmer’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th inning drove in the winning run, as the Kansas City Royals edged the New York Mets 5-4 in the first game of the World Series last night. Game two of the Fall Classic will be played in Kansas City tonight.
L’Anse Hoops registration will be held tonight between 5:00 and 7:00 at the school cafetorium. The cost is $20.00 if you have a jersey from last season that you can reuse, $40.00 if you need a new jersey, with a maximum cost of $60.00 per family.
The high school football playoffs open Friday evening, when Calumet visits Negaunee. On Saturday afternoon, Lake Linden-Hubbell entertains Forest Park. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
