Concealed Weapons Changes Targeted

The Michigan Senate is weighing a bill to allow concealed-pistol license holders to carry guns in currently restricted areas.

In exchange, the bill will restrict open carry of firearms.

Supporters call it a fair compromise, adding that allowing law abiding citizens to carry into those areas will make criminals think twice about using their guns.

But Linda Brundage of the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence says that argument is a myth.

Brundage says there’s no research to suggest allowing concealed-carry in places like churches or hockey arenas will discourage criminals from shooting.

The legislation was approved in committee last week and is now before the full chamber.
