Two Injured In Automobile Accident

Two men are recovering after a two vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Germfask Township.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the Manistique Detachment responded to the accident at approximately 3:15 p.m.

A 2008 Dodge Nitro driven by 34-year-old Stephen Powers of Mackinaw City, was headed southbound on M-77 when he slowed down to avoid hitting a dog that was standing in the road.

While Powers was stopped, a 2008 Buick Enclave driven by 25-year-old Joel Smith of Wyoming, MI slammed into the back of Powers’ vehicle.

Both men were taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation.
