Efficiency UNITED Offering No-Cost Home Energy Score Assessments

HOUGHTON—Up to 175 area residents will get complimentary home energy assessments the week of Oct. 19-24, thanks to a pilot program linking the US Department of Energy (DOE), Efficiency UNITED and the Houghton Energy Efficiency Team (HEET).

The Home Energy Score program is open to anyone who 1) is a customer of both Semco and UPPCO and 2) lives in a single-family dwelling or duplex.

Through the program, homes get a professional energy inspection developed by the DOE. They will then receive an Energy Score from 1 to 10, plus energy-saving recommendations that can to bring their score up.

In addition, anyone participating in the Home Energy Score program receives energy-saving devices such as LED light bulbs, all at no cost.

Representatives from Efficiency UNITED will be at Dee Stadium Saturday for the HEET Energy Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to sign participants up for their complimentary Home Energy Score. You can also schedule an appointment at http://energizehoughton.org/score.

“This is just an outstanding program, and we are beyond lucky to have it available in our community,” said HEET manager Melissa Davis. “So often, people want to tighten up their homes but don’t know where to begin. The Home Energy Score program not only shows how energy-efficient your home is, it also gives you a strategy to make it warmer, cozier and cheaper to heat.”

Anyone interested in learning simple ways to winterize their homes can also sign up for free hands-on lessons at the Generations of Energy Efficiency Exhibit Saturday at the Energy Show.
