Local Health Center Recognized Nationally for High Quality, Comprehensive Health Care

Hancock, MI – Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center (UGL) was among 61 health centers nationwide awarded funding as a National Quality Leader. To receive funding as a National Quality Leader a health center had to meet or exceeded national clinical quality benchmarks. UGL is helping to demonstrate health centers’ critical role in improving quality health care nationwide.

“Being named a National Quality Leader is a big honor for Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center,” said Donald Simila, UGL Chief Executive Officer. “All of our 9 locations are among the highest quality performers when compared to national standards and benchmarks in key clinical areas.”

UGL was the only health center in Michigan to receive this distinguished recognition.  The award included $42,529 in additional funding through the Affordable Care Act for UGL toexpand current quality improvement systems and infrastructure, and improve primary care service delivery in the community.

“Today’s funding rewards those health centers that are achieving the highest levels of clinical quality performance and improvement,” said Health Resources and Services Administration Acting Administrator, Jim Macrae. “The awards will help health centers continue to provide comprehensive primary care to the nation’s most vulnerable communities.” The funding was award as part of a larger funding award through the Affordable Care Act to recognize health center achievements in providing high quality comprehensive care.
