MLB – Tigers Fall in Ninth
Neftali Feliz gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Chicago White Sox 4-3 last night. The walk-off loss came after James McCann had given Detroit a one-run lead in the top of the inning with an RBI double. Justin Verlander gave up two runs on five hits over six innings, and struck out nine in his final start of the season. Details are here.

The Milwaukee Brewers got only two hits, and lost to the Chicago Cubs 1-0 yesterday. Details are here.

In high school football Saturday, Ewen-Trout Creek lost at Engadine 55-0.
The Team Copper Country U18 hockey squad game defeated the Soo Michigan U18 team Friday night 7-2, and followed up with a 7-3 victory Saturday morning. Team CC tied the Minnesota Northern Wings AAA team from Duluth last night 4-4. Those teams play again this morning at 10:00 at the SDC.
MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team welcomes Malone today at noon at Sherman Field.
The MTU volleyball team lost a tight 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 24-26) match to Hillsdale Saturday afternoon. Jacqueline Aird had 13 digs, and set a new Tech career record. Details are here.
The result of the MTU women’s tennis team match against Wayne State Saturday morning was not reported. The Huskies host Hillsdale this morning.
The Michigan Tech football team had the weekend off. The Northern Michigan University football team edged Saginaw Valley State 36-34 Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals scored a touchdown in the final minute, but their attempt to tie the game with a two-point conversion was broken up.
Finlandia
The Finlandia football team earned the first victory in program history Saturday by beating Maranatha Baptist University 30-14. Jaavaid Love rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Ronald Brown completed 13 of 24 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for another score. Details are here.
The Finlandia men’s soccer team will host Robert Morris-Springfield this morning at 10:00.
The Finlandia volleyball team opened a triangular at Crown College Saturday by losing to the host team 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 21-25). Details are here. The result of the Lions’ match against Trinity Bible College was not reported.

The Detroit Red Wings closed their exhibition season with a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. Andreas Athanasiou had a goal and an assist, and Petr Mrazek stopped 29 shots in goal. Game details are here. The Wings host the the Leafs in their regular-season opener Friday night.

Kindler, Ballor Win Half-n-Dash
Bryce Kindler from Houghton won the half marathon at the Houghton Half-n-Dash Saturday, finishing more than four minutes ahead of Logan Maurer of Houghton. Tazia Ballor of L’Anse was the top women’s finisher. See full results from the half marathon and the 5K here.
