Republican-Backed Plan Introduced to Combat Puppy Mills

Large-scale dog breeders would have to register with the state and provide owners with paperwork so they know what kind of dog they’re getting – and what kind of health it’s in – under a bill introduced in the Michigan House.

State Representative Mike McCready is sponsoring the bill and says it would supersede any local ordinances already on the books.

McCready, a Republican, says a uniform set of rules will ensure puppy mills have nowhere to hide in the state.

The measure is similar to a Democrat-backed plan introduced earlier this year.
