Gogebic Community College Responds To Best In State Ranking

The best community college in the state is right here in the U.P.

That’s according to the national website, Wallethub.com.

The website recently ranked all of the community colleges in the nation.  Twenty-seven made the list from Michigan.

And Gogebic Community College was 123rd in the country, putting it first among those from the state.

The rankings took into account the cost of in-state tuition and the student to faculty ratio.

GCC Director of Off-Campus Operations Stacy Brey said, “We do have small class sizes. The typical ratio would be no more than 24 students in a class, which I think is beneficial to them. We offer tutoring in a lot of the core subject areas which really helps the students succeed and provide that extra support along the way.”

And though it’s nice to be highly thought of by Wallethub, it’s what the students think that matters most.

Brey said, “It’s what can we do best for our students. What can we do to meet their needs? And, if they’re seeing us as number one, that’s what matters to us.”

Gogebic Community College’s main campus is in Ironwood and they have a satellite campus in Houghton.
