Layoffs At The MEDC

More than five dozen employees are being laid off by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

The MEDC is Michigan’s job development arm.

The current legislature voted to make big cuts in the department.

The cuts total about 27 percent.

65 people will be laid off October 1st, reducing its workforce from 307 to 242.

The cuts, according to MEDC Director Steve Arwood, will not stop the department from concentrating on core missions of business and community development, as well as the Pure Michigan image campaign.
