Bills Would Require Health Insurance Cover Hearing Aids for Kids

Advocates for those with hearing loss are supporting a bill that would require health insurance providers cover hearing aids for those 21-years old or younger.

Former Miss Michigan, KT Maviglia, wears hearing aids. She says the bill would mandate insurers pay for new hearing aids for young people every three years.

She says paying for hearing aids out-of-pocket can cost up to $2000 and if her parents didn’t pull together the money to get her hearing aids, she wouldn’t be where she is today.

She says being able to hear, affects how well kids perform at school, so getting hearing aids for those who need them, when they need them can have a big impact on their future.

The bill is in a Senate committee.
