The city of Houghton is getting ready for winter as fall approaches.
City Manager Eric Waara gave the Public Works Department report to the city council at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
Waara indicated that the dock near the boat launch has been repaired and they are now working on the showers at Dee Stadium.
Besides cleaning up after the recent storms, crews have been patching roads and hauling winter sand with pre-winterization work to continue as the temperatures turn colder.
Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said the police department has been busy lately, answering 145 calls for service since his last report.
The hope is that things begin to calm down now that school is back in session.
Patrolman Nate Kinnunen is undergoing Non-Stranger Sexual Assault Training in Marquette.
Donnelly, who also has had the training, estimated that 95% of criminal sexual conduct cases they investigate involve date rape situations.
In other business, the council formally adopted its investment policy. The policy has been in place since 1998 but was not formally adopted by the council until Wednesday night.
