Michigan will opt to come up with its own clean energy plan rather than going with a federal model.
The Environmental Protection Agency recently issued a carbon emission rule that gives states the option to create their own emissions reduction plan or abide by a federal one.
Valerie Brader of the Michigan Agency for Energy says the state will work with stakeholders in developing a plan to make sure Michigan’s values, priorities and policies are represented.
Dan Wyant of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says going with a state plan will work better to meet the state’s needs.
The state will submit its plan by September 2016, the federal deadline.
