The Portage Health Foundation Spring Gala’s
2015 Outdoor Recreation Grant Awardees
Baraga County
The Village of L’Anse received a grant to implement their 3rd Street Enhancement Project. The village will install new fencing that will increase the park’s safety as well as giving the park an updated look.
Houghton County
The Stanton Athletic Club collaborated with Stanton Township Park and Recreation to receive funds toward improving the A.C. Baseball Field. Improvements consist of installing a backstop, batting cage, and new fencing; repairing the infield and bleachers; and providing amenities that accommodate handicapped and elderly visitors.
Keweenaw County
Allouez Township was awarded funding for two projects. The first project is for the installation of a sand volleyball court in Mohawk Park. The second project is the creation of a Fit Trail that will run the perimeter of Seneca Lake and connect to Mohawk.
Ontonagon County
Friends of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park received funds to offer a weekend Kid Ski Program. The program will run from January to March and will pay for participants’ lift tickets, ski rentals, and lessons.
The Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment (MI-TRALE) collaborated with Ontonagon Township. Together, these groups will purchase and install two ADA portable swings, a pair of basketball sets, and four disc golf stations at the Ontonagon Township Park.
