Lions, Packers Make Roster Cuts
Wide receiver Ryan Broyles was among the first group of Detroit Lions cut yesterday, as the team began trimming its roster before the opening of the regular season. Broyles was Detroit’s second-round draft pick in 2012, but struggled with injuries. It had become apparent that he did not fit into the Lions’ plans for this season, and he asked the team for his release several days ago.
Broyles was one of eight players cut yesterday. Another was placed on Injured Reserve. Three players were added. Running back Joique Bell was brought off the Physically Unable to Perform List. Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was activated from the Non-Football Injury List. Tight end Tim Wright joined the club via trade from the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay gets kicker Kyle Brindza in exchange.
The Packers released five players yesterday – none of them headliners. That reduces Green Bay’s roster to 83. Detroit’s is at 78. The NFL requires that rosters be pared to 75 players by late today.
Our high school football coverage continues Thursday night, when Calumet plays at Negaunee… and Saturday afternoon, when Lake Linden-Hubbell entertains Hurley. Listen to the games on KBear 102.3, or at KBear102.com.
