Agency Director Denies Request to Allow Medical Marijuana to Treat Autism

Autism will not be included on a list of conditions treatable by medical marijuana in Michigan.

That’s because the director of the state’s department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs denied a citizen petition to add autism to the list.

They specifically wanted to use medical marijuana oils and extracts to treat autism in children but LARA Director Mike Zimmer says there isn’t enough scientific evidence to prove they work.

He also says the extracts may not be legal in Michigan.

The Medical Marijuana Law Review Panel voted 4-2 last month to recommend autism be added to the list, however Zimmer had the final say.
