A state senator that sits on a panel considering changes to Michigan’s energy policies says job creation should be part of the discussion.
Energy reforms being looked at would eliminate the state’s renewable standard and dump net metering, the program that credits solar panel users for putting their excess power back into the power grid.
So far, consumer impact has been the focus of talks, but Senator David Knezek says there is another aspect to consider. He says renewables, like solar production, has potential for creating quality jobs and that should be at the forefront of discussions.
Knezek says these are high paying, clean jobs that will continue to grow Michigan’s economy.
A Senate committee is still taking testimony on the reforms.
