The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the Huron Mountain Club that claims construction of the Eagle Mine will spoil the environment in northern Marquette County. Published reports say the Court will not intervene in a dispute over construction of the mine launched by the club. The Huron Mountain Club, which owns 19,000 acres of land in the area, some of which comes within 3 miles of the mine, has been challenging the mine in state and federal courts. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals also ruled against the club’s arguments that the mine needs federal permits.
