Finlandia University has hired Tempest Bryant for the newly created role of coordinator of student engagement and leadership.
“Tempest brings contagious, positive energy to campus,” said Erin Barnett, director of academic success and student life. “The students are going to love her creativity, enthusiasm and commitment to their well-being and success. We will see a shift in the campus experience for all students, including commuters, non-traditional, and residential, in ways we haven’t even imagined.”
Bryant joins Finlandia after spending most of the past two years as the resident director at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. While at Widener she earned her master of science degree in higher education leadership.
She began duties at Finlandia early this summer. Her primary responsibilities include organizing student events, developing and implementing student leadership trainings and supporting student organizations.
“I am excited to be offering a wide variety of events and activities that will complement students’ academic endeavors,” Bryant said. “My mission is to provide opportunities for students to become leaders, engaged in the Finlandia campus and the larger communities.”
Her work will immediately be noticeable to students as she kicks off the semester beginning on Monday, August 24 with the inaugural Welcome Week. The weeklong series of events will include more than a dozen activities on campus and around Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula.
