MLB – Tigers Victor-ious
Victor Martinez’ two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 7-6 victory over the Boston Red Sox last night. Martinez’ blow made a winner of Blaine Hardy, who had relieved Alfredo Simon with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh, and given up a two-run single that put Boston ahead. All six Red Sox runs were charged to Simon. Rajai Davis also homered for Detroit.
The Tigers wrap up that home set against the Red Sox this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start against Henry Owens. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Detroit has once again demoted pitcher Shane Greene to Toledo. Reliever Tom Gorzelanny has been called up to replace him.
The Saint Louis Cardinals posted their third straight shutout yesterday, blanking the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0. Wily Peralta took the tough loss, giving up three runs on just five hits over seven innings.
The Brewers host the Cardinals again this afternoon. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against John Lackey.
