Life can change in the blink of an eye and no one knows that fact more than area resident Doug Hodges and his family. Their life took a U-turn in mid-July this year when their Laurium home was destroyed by fire. Since that day they have been working to put their lives back together with the help of family and friends.
A Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser to help the family is scheduled for Wed. Aug.12 from 4 to 7 p.m. to raise money to help the Hodges recover from the tragedy and rebuild their home and their lives.
There is a suggested donation of $10 for each ticket/meal.
The event will be hosted by Grace United Methodist Church; it is the church the family attends. A team led by church members and MTU students Ross Michaels, Kaitlyn Heitala and Katelyn Kelley, all juniors, will be planning, selling tickets, and coordinating cooks/meal preparation, and all the work that goes into the event.
“We saw that Doug and his family were hit with a tragedy that most of us read about but will never personally experience,” said Michaels. “Not only has their home been destroyed but all their belongings were too. We wanted to do more than express our
sorrow at their situation. We felt called to act and help them. We thought that this event was the best way to be of assistance. We hope many people in our area will attend.”
Tickets for the dinner are available from members of Grace UMC, by calling the church office at 906-482-2780, or from the family, or at the door. Take out will be available for those who wish to enjoy the meal at their convenience. For more information, please call the church office.
