Group Planning Ballot Iniative to Increase Corporate Income tax

A new coalition has formed to begin collecting signatures in an effort to ask voters to raise the state’s Corporate Income Tax from six percent to eleven percent.

The backers call themselves “Citizens for Fair Taxes.”

The Gongwer News Service reports the plan would raise 900 (m) million dollars for roads in Michigan.

Business groups have opposed proposals to raise the Corporation Income Tax. The proposal is a voter-initiated act.

The campaign will have to collect just over a quarter of a (m) million signatures to put the plan before lawmakers.

If they’re successful, lawmakers can either vote in the idea, or ignore it.

Doing the latter would send the proposal to the statewide ballot.
