Joint Resolution Introduced to Condense Michigan’s Legislature

A resolution introduced in the Michigan House calls for drastically shrinking the size of the state legislature.

The proposal creates a non-partisan, unicameral legislature – meaning no one would be identified as a Republican or Democrat and instead of having a House and Senate there would be one chamber.

State Representative Martin Howrylak is sponsoring the resolution and says it would also water down the power of the legislative leaders to where they wouldn’t control the day-to-day movement of bills.

Only one state – Nebraska – currently operates a non-partisan, unicameral legislature.
