The VA is moving towards higher transparency after a new bill was passed unanimously in the House Tuesday.
The House of Representatives voted on the “Veterans Data Modernization Act,” which will require the VA to collect basic data on the cost of providing care to veterans.
The bill was authored by Congressman Dan Benishek and follows reports that the VA has run $3 billion over budget and may have to close hospitals and clinics unless more funds can be allocated.
The hope is that lawmakers and VA officials will be able to make better decisions about and improve veteran care.
