MLB – Tigers
Franklin Gutierrez’ pinch-hit grand slam home in the eighth inning powered the Seattle Mariners to an 11-9 victory over the Detroit Tigers last night. The blow off Neftali Feliz erased a nice comeback by the Tigers, who had fallen behind early when Shane Greene gave up four runs in the first inning. Greene settled down, and pitched into the fifth, giving up just one more run. Detroit chipped away, and eventually surged ahead with a four-run fifth inning. Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Martinez homered for the Tigers, who dropped 10.5 games behind the Royals in the American League Central. Martinez’ shot to center field was measured at 467 feet – a Comerica Park record.

The Tigers continue that home set against the Mariners tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Mike Montgomery. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Former Tigers’ reliever Joba Chamberlain has signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Matt Garza tossed six shutout innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cleveland Indians 8-1 last night. Jean Segura homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers and Indians wrap up that quick two-game series this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Cody Anderson.
