MLB – Tigers
The Baltimore Orioles scored a run off Justin Verlander in the first inning, then chased him from the game while scoring six more runs in the third, and beat the Detroit Tigers 9-3 yesterday. Verlander gave up two home runs. Ironically, the Tigers and Orioles had the same number of hits – 14 – but the Tigers couldn’t get the clutch hits they needed to keep pace.

After dropping two out of three to Baltimore, and falling below .500 for the first time this season, the Tigers open a home set against the Mariners tonight. Alfredo Simon will start against J.A. Happ. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Tigers’ third baseman Nick Castellanos was knocked out of yesterday’s game after he was hit in the cheek by a ground ball in the fifth inning. Castellanos said his vision was affected by the shot, but quickly cleared. An X-ray showed no broken bones, and he’s considered day to day.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored two runs in the seventh, and four in the eighth, and defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1 yesterday. Khris Davis and Shane Peterson each contributed two-run doubles. Taylor Jungmann gave up five hits and one run over seven innings to earn the win.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Cleveland Indians in an interleague series beginning tomorrow night. Matt Garza will pitch against Danny Salazar.

In a recent interview with a Swedish news outlet, Datsyuk says he’s now been told he might not be able to start working out until nearly Thanksgiving.
