Legislation has been introduced in Lansing to allow microbrewers to provide sample servings of beer at farmer’s markets in Michigan. The bill is similar to legislation approved last year that deals with wine tasting. State House Democrats Andy Schor of Lansing and Marcia Hovey-Wright of Muskegon say Michigan has the fifth largest craft brewing industry in the country, and allowing beer sampling at farmer’s markets in the state will encourage job and brewing industry growth. The proposal requires market operators to obtain a $25 permit. Specifically, the measure allows customers to have up to three ounces of beer per 24-hour period.
