MLB – Tigers, Brewers Win
J.D. Martinez blasted his 26th home run of the season, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 last night. Jose Iglesias and and Victor Martinez also homered for Detroit. Anibal Sanchez wasn’t sharp, but gutted out six innings to earn the win. He gave up two runs on eight hits.

The Tigers continue that home set against the Orioles tonight. David Price will start against Chris Tillman. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Mike Fiers turned in seven strong innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1. Fiers held the Pirates to just three hits, and pitched six shutout innings before surrendering a solo home run to Jung Ho Kang in the seventh.

The Brewers entertain the Pirates again tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Francisco Liriano.

State Senior Softball Tourney Continues – Esky Dominates Day One
Escanaba dominated the first day of the Michigan State Little League Senior Girls Softball Tournament Friday. Melvindale won the opening game of the day with a 7-5 victory over Keweenaw in eight innings. In the second game, Escanaba rolled over Keweenaw 19-5, and Esky completed the day with a 13-0 shutout of Melvindale.

The tournament continues today. Due to possible inclement weather later in the day the schedule has been changed.  The skills competition will now be at 4:00 and moved to the Boneyard in Lake Linden. At 10:00, Keweenaw faces Escanaba. At 12:00, Escanaba takes on Melvindale. At 2:00, Melvindale plays Keweenaw. The top two teams from round robin play yesterday and today will meet in the championship game tomorrow morning at 10:00. The public is welcome. Check the full schedule here.

Portage Lake Boys Win District Title
2015-07-18 - Portage Little League 9-10 Champs
The Portage Lake Boys 9-10 All-Stars defeated Penokee Range 15-3 at Marquette on Friday to win the District 11 title. See video highlights here. Portage Lake advances to the state tournament next week in St. Clair.

Canal Run LogoThe 40th Hancock Canal Run will take place this morning. A record field of more than 850 racers have signed up for the half-marathon, 10-mile run, 5-mile run, 10-mile walk, or 5-mile walk. All events finish in downtown Hancock.
