Little League Series Starts Today – Friday Sports Wrap

The Tigers and Brewers return to action tonight, after the All-Star break.

The Tigers open a home set against the Orioles. Anibal Sanchez will start against Ubaldo Jimenez. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Detroit may be without newly-acquired first baseman Marc Krauss this weekend. Krauss is expected to be placed on paternity leave today, as he attends the birth of his second child. The Toledo Blade reports that shortstop Dixon Machado will be called up from the Mud Hens to fill the roster spot.

The Brewers begin a home series against the Pirates. Mike Fiers will pitch against Charlie Morton.

State Senior Softball Tourney Opens
Little League Softball LogoThe Michigan State Little League Senior Girls Softball Tournament opens today at the Boneyard in Lake Linden. At 1:00, Melvindale faces Keweenaw. At 3:00, Keweenaw plays Escanaba. At 5:00, Escanaba takes on Melvindale. The skills competition begins tomorrow morning at 10:00 at the George Gipp Athletic Complex in Laurium, followed by more preliminary games at the Boneyard. The championship game will be played Sunday morning at 10:00. The public is welcome. Check the full schedule here.

Canal Run Tomorrow
Canal Run LogoThe 40th Hancock Canal Run will take place tomorrow morning. Options include a half-marathon, 10-mile run, 5-mile run, 10-mile walk, and 5-mile walk. All events finish in downtown Hancock. Last-minute registration will take place today from 2:00 until 8:00 at Finlandia Hall. There will also be a pre-race pasta dinner from 4:30 until 7:30 at Finlandia Hall. The quarter-mile Canal Kids’ Dash will take place at 10:15 in downtown Hancock tomorrow.
