Marina To Remain Open Longer

The Houghton County Marina will remain open slightly longer to provide fuel service to boaters.

The marina had previously remained open to 8:00pm but Houghton County Administrator Eric Forsberg said a study done by the harbormaster showed very little business after 6:00pm so the hours were changed.

A few residents shared with the county board of commissioners at their regular meeting Wednesday that 6:00pm was too early to close and prevented many of them from refueling.

A compromise was struck where the marina would stay open until 7:00pm on weekdays and until 8:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer months.

The board said the harbormaster will once again monitor the business during that time to determine if the extended hours are justified.
