MLB – Tigers
The Detroit Tigers staked David Price to a four-run lead in the first inning, and cruised past the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3. The inning was powered by a J.D. Martinez home run, and a triple by James McCann. Price responded with seven innings of one-run ball, and earned his eighth win of the season.

The Tigers wrap up that home set against the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon. Justin Verlander will pitch against Marco Estrada. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

As expected, the Tigers placed Miguel Cabrera on the disabled list yesterday. He’s expected to miss at least six weeks with the calf strain that forced him out of Friday night’s game. Alex Avila started at first base in last night’s game, and leaned into the stands to make a highlight-reel catch of a foul pop fly. Detroit called up Jefry Marte from Toledo, but he’s a third baseman by trade. Jordan Lennerton and Mike Hessman have been splitting time at first base for the Mud Hens, but both are hitting below .250.

The Milwaukee Brewers won their seventh game in a row, pounding the Cincinnati Reds 7-3 yesterday. Milwaukee broke the game open by scoring six runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of five singles, two walks, a hit batter, a balk, an error, and two stolen bases. Jimmy Nelson earned the win, giving up all three Reds’ runs before leaving in the sixth.

The Brewers conclude that set against the Reds at Cincinnati this afternoon. Taylor Jungmann will start against Mike Leake.

Packers’ Tight End Quarless Arrested
Green Bay Packers’ tight end Andrew Quarless has been arrested on a weapons charge in Florida. Police say Quarless became involved in an argument with several women who were in a car in Miami, and that Quarless eventually grabbed a semi-automatic handgun from his own vehicle and fired it into the air. He’s charged with a misdemeanor. The Packers have issued a statement saying they won’t comment until they learn more about the incident.

Frisbee Tournament Concludes Today
The 58th annual Coca Cola International Frisbee Tournament featured some tense action on Saturday. As competition resumes this morning, four teams remain in the winners’ bracket – defending champion Boomtown Saints, last year’s runners-up and former champion Appleton Assassins, newcomers Twenty Times, and the local Luigi’s team.

US-41 grabs a serve from Blood and Guts at the IFT Saturday.

Saturday’s tightest match was the last one, between that veteran Luigi’s team and the Red Carpet Baggers, comprised of some very talented local young players. The teams matched point for point until well into the evening, with Luigi’s prevailing 23-21, 20-22, 22-20. Observers called it one of the best matches in tournament history.

The Boomtown Saints had a dominant day, advancing to the winners’ bracket with a  21-3, 21-17 win over US-41. The Appleton Assassins stumbled with an early seeding-game loss to Twenty Times, but easily dispatched RKO 21-10, 21-14 to reach the winners’ bracket. Twenty Times earned its berth with a 20-22, 21-6, 21-13 victory over the local Americats team.

Action resumes this morning at 10:00. All teams still have an opportunity to advance to the finals via the losers’ bracket. At noon, there’ll be a women’s exhibition game – the first such match at the IFT in 31 years. You’re invited to visit Agassiz Field and enjoy the action. Updates will also be posted here.
