Remote Voting Would Not Be Allowed Under Bill

A bill prohibiting people elected to serve on boards or commissions from taking part in a meeting and vote via Skype or by phone was aired in a Senate committee this week.

No vote was taken. State Representative Amanda Price is sponsoring the bill and says it comes down to accountability, citing a 2012 University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting where no member was physically present.

The bill would not impact people who volunteer to serve on a board or commission.
