Health Care Exchange Rates Set To Go Up

Michigan residents covered by the Affordable Care Act and get insurance from the federal health care exchange could see their rates increase in 2016.

Eleven of Michigan’s sixteen insurers that offer plans on the health care exchange have asked for a rate increase, according to the state Department of Insurance and Financial Services.

Rick Notter of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the state’s largest provider, says the Blues is asking for about a 10-percent increase.

He says much of the hike reflects increased medical costs.

Notter says it’s important to note that rates may vary based on plan.
