Most Regions See Unemployment Numbers Rise

Seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in May rose in 16 of the state’s 17 major labor market areas.

Only the Northeast Lower Michigan region saw a decline.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says the jobless rate increases are due to more workers entering the state’s labor pool to take advantage of summer and seasonal employment opportunities.

The Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids areas had the state’s lowest jobless rate in May at four-point-two percent while Northeast Lower Michigan had the highest at seven-point-four percent.
