Hearing On Proposed Medicaid Waiver Scheduled

A hearing on the second proposed Medicaid waiver from the federal government for the Healthy Michigan program is set for Wednesday.

Among the options the waiver could include is increasing cost sharing for clients who have had coverage for at least four years or letting them acquire insurance on the federal exchange.

The first waiver from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services allowed the state to actually set up and operate the Healthy Michigan program.

As of Monday, the program had approximately 599,500 people enrolled.

The Healthy Michigan plan requires enrollees to participate in activities to help maintain their personal health, which was one reason the initial waiver was needed.
